Iowa Genealogical Society

The society maintains an extensive genealogical reference library, publishes a quarterly booklet, and member bi-monthly newsletter, as well as a variety of genealogical reference works, primarily Iowa vital records, and holds an annual conference.

State Historical Society of Iowa Library & Iowa State Archives

Housed in the State Historical Building, the Society & Archives contain Iowa-related maps, manuscripts, periodicals, and a statewide repository for land office plats, census records, and a county microfilm collection. As of 1989, the State Historical Society, under the direction of the Genealogical Society of Utah, was involved in a statewide county records microfilming project, including vital statistics, probate and land.

NOTE: The State Historical Society no longer answers out-of-state queries ... only in-state.
